Making Sense Of Water Heater Prices

Just like pretty much every other product in the home remodeling world, water heater prices are going up.  The cost of making them, shipping them, and repairing them are on the rise and the added expense is passed down to you, the consumer.  Here is a guideline on how to determine whether or not the unit you are looking at buying is a good value for your needs.

1)  What will it cost to run.  There are instantaneous water heaters now available to consumers.  These nifty appliances actually heat the water without the use of a tank.  They are also referred to as instant, demand, or tankless water heaters.  While the initial cost will be more than a traditional unit, these heaters will cost less to run every month.  They will save you money on your utility bills.  Also, because you don't have to wait for the water to get hot, they will also help to reduce the amount of your monthly water bill.

2)  Warranty.  How long is the warranty and what exactly does it cover?  While most water heaters will last you a long time, repairs are often needed to keep the unit in working order.  Make sure that the warranty covers all repairs and service.  This can save you a lot of money in the long run.

3)  Rebates.  There are several rebates being offered by the Federal government and many state governments for the purchase of energy saving appliances.  This is especially true for solar powered units.  There may even be tax credits available to you for these purchases.

I can't believe how cheap water heaters are. My last one lasted me over ten years and when I had to buy a new one I thought I was going to be in big financial trouble but i was pleasantly surprsied by the low prices. Low, at least compared to other appliances

i agree with the last post. tankless is not the bes for durability. instead, buy something that you know will last. there is no getting around the fact that you have to pay for quality when it comes to water heaters of all types.

I am a professional plumber and have been for twenty years. I do mostly commercial plumbing now and i can tell everyone that while tankless water heaters are convenient, they just don't last as long as the originals.

If I may suggest something, you don't have to read a lot about water heaters to choose a good one. just buy a tankless version because they are not htat much more expensive and they work much better and faster than the ones with tanks.

To say that trying to understand water heaters is difficult is an understatement. There really are a lot of choices and I was lost when I first started. The best way to learn is to read as much as you can about them.
